Next YAH Luncheons:

Special Guests:
Melody Singers
Our programs vary from missionary speakers to gospel quartets and beyond. For example we heard from Director Mark Terrell of Cup of Cool Water. An orginization that helps street kids exit street life in Spokane. Other programs have been Director Tim Mason of Riverview Bible Camp in Cusick, Washington; Riversong signing group from Riverview Retirement Center; Mike Klontz with New Tribes Mission; Christmas music program led by Fourth's own "Scrap Iron Quartet"; the Project Joy Senior Serenaders; Patriotic Songfest by Doug and Candy Gintz along with special speaker, Joel Craig, father of soldier, Sargent James Craig who died in battle in Iraq; Christ Clinic and Christ Kitchen.
Young at Heart also supports kids Camp at Riverview Bible Camp as one of it's primary ministries. Each month we take a "Noisey Offering" by dumping coins into a metal coffee can. This past summer we were able to provide scholarships for 22 juniors that otherwise might not have been able to attend camp. Many of those were kids from the immediate Logan neighborhood. And many of the children attending camp accepted Christ as their personal savior. It is a most worthwhile endeavor.

Year End Annual Ministry Report 2010
Submitted by Bob Franzen
Young At Heart Coordinator
I remember when the thought of living in the twenty-first century was only a fantasy and didn’t seem to be a happening we would live to see. Yet, here we are in the year 2011 with ten percent of the 21st century now history. The year of 2010 was, for the Young At Heart, another year of service, joy and blessing from the living God.
The Young At Heart programs in 2010 included the music of Doug and Candy Gintz for the Fourth of July and Christmas, The Riversong group, The Melody Singers, the group His Song, and Judy and Ernie Carlson. Jonathan and Quynh Parlane sang and reported on their activities as Wycliffe missionaries.
The mission field was well represented during the year by Rich and Joyce Mattocks of Wycliffe in Papua New Guinea, Evelyn Hatton of SIM Zambia, Nancy Mortlock of the Transitions Gate Project in Romania, and Jonathon and Quynh Parlane of Wycliffe.
Sonny Westbrook of the Union Gospel Mission kept us abreast of the good work at the mission. Many of our YAH members are strong supporters of the UGM.
Dr. John McMath, a Moody Bible Institute professor, told us of the progress of his ministry, Saints Equipped To Evangelize.
Fourth’s Worship Pastor, Steve Yoell, started off the year with a rundown of the Music and Worship plans for the year.
As we moved through the year, some of our saints went to be with the Lord. We miss them, but rejoice with them in their new life in eternity with Jesus. Praise God!
Young At Heart is open to anyone age 60 and over although we don’t check ID’s. Even Frank Hamilton has decided to join although there is a suspicion he’s still too young.
There are many opportunities to serve in YAH either financially as some do or as workers in the various ministries supported by our seniors. The junior camping program benefits greatly every year through our contributions from the noisy offerings and from the proceeds of the sale of old newspapers and aluminum cans. We always need help with the monthly luncheon programs in the preparation and cleanup of the facility. If you can help, please contact Sally Sharpe or Bob Franzen.
An active group of board members consists of:
Pastor Ed and Elaine Underhill, who were responsible for securing the people to present the YAH monthly programs throughout the year.
Laura Schlangen, who kept everyone informed of upcoming luncheons and other events.
Sally Sharpe, who is in charge of the kitchen and plans and cooks the wonderful meals we enjoy.
Charlene Gardner, who is Sally’s able second in charge and takes over the number one spot in Sally’s rare absences. Charlene also is the secretary for the executive group, so is very busy.
Richard Gardner continued to head the group collecting the old newspapers and aluminum cans and taking them to the recycler every month. It’s a huge job and Richard could use another hand or two. Richard has an eye for detail and helps keep us on track in the YAH ministry.
Dee Rueb is our new treasurer, taking over for Elise Widman who moved to the Spokane Valley. Dee handles the taking and accounting of the offerings at the monthly luncheons.
Bob Franzen acts as chairman of the monthly executive meetings.
Bill and Georgialee Smithpeters ably handle the chores of setup for the monthly luncheons and the calling of all YAH members the week before to insure an accurate count for the kitchen crew.
We invite all seniors to attend one of our luncheons on the first Thursday of every month. Just call the church office at 487-2786 and tell us you’re coming. We’ll see you there.
